5 Lash Lift Aftercare Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

A lash lift is one of those treatments where the salon does the hard part — but how long it lasts is mostly down to you. Most of the "my lash lift didn't last" stories come down to one of five very avoidable mistakes. 🤎

Mistake #1: Getting your lashes wet too soon

Your lashes need at least 24 hours (some technicians recommend 48) to fully set after a lift. Water, steam, sweat, or tears during this window can relax the curl before it's locked in.

Instead: Plan your lift around your schedule, not the night before a workout or beach day. If you do get caught out, gently blot (don't rub) with a soft tissue.

Mistake #2: Reaching for an eyelash curler

A mechanical curler on top of a chemical lift is a recipe for weakened, over-processed lashes — and it can actually undo the curl you just paid for.

Instead: Trust the lift. If you need more curl, that's a conversation for your next appointment.

Mistake #3: Using oil-based products near your eyes

Cleansers, makeup removers, and moisturisers with oils break down the setting solution faster than almost anything else — including some "gentle" micellar waters and cleansing balms that don't look oily but are.

Instead: Check your labels, and use an oil-free, lash-safe cleanser around the eye area.

Mistake #4: Skipping conditioning entirely

A lash lift is a chemical process that can leave lashes prone to dryness and breakage if you don't support them afterward. Brittle lashes hold a curl less well.

Instead: A lightweight, daily lash serum goes a long way — look for something hydrating that won't weigh lashes down.

Mistake #5: Booking your next lift too soon

Lifting lashes that haven't fully grown out from the last treatment can lead to overprocessing — dryness, brittleness, and eventually breakage.

Instead: Space lifts 6-8 weeks apart, in line with your natural lash growth cycle.

The pattern here

Every one of these mistakes comes back to the same idea: your lash lift is only half the equation. What you do (or don't do) in the following weeks decides whether that work lasts six weeks or six days.

Keep it simple: avoid water for the first 24-48 hours, skip the curler, stay oil-free, condition daily, and give your lashes their full growth cycle between appointments. Our Lash & Brow Conditioning Serum and Gentle Foaming Lash Cleanser are built around exactly this routine.
